I listened to Guide to the Future. OMG it had me laughing out loud so much. CANNOT WAIT FOR GUIDE TO THE HUMAN BODY.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Week ninety-nine - December 2009/January 2010

A huge thank you to the wonderful Matt Holmes for this little mention of Cemetery Junction.

We record the score next week and should have a trailer out too soon after that.

Finished The Guide to the Human Body today. Best one so far I think. (Followed by Philosophy and Future). (Then English.) Oh fuck, another list...

OK...
1. Human Body
2. Philosophy
3. Future
4. English
5. Arts
6. Law and Order
7. Society
8. Medicine
9. Natural History

The reason why i've put Human Body at the top is because Karl tells 2 or 3 stories about his childhood that his parents reminded him of over Christmas. They are fucking mental. (The stories I mean, not his parents.)

Anyway.

Thanks for a great year and hope you had one too.

Here's to 2010. (That's the Future)... out now. [iTunes UK] & [iTunes Rest of World]

ther lovely list.

As always I'm very flattered, but it's time to do a list without my shows in it. My list. I'd obviously like to put my shows in this list too but I may be accused of being biased. (Just assume they're there, if I'm being totally honest.)

Ok. So...

Frequently answered questions in advance...

Why no Simpsons?
That's the best TV of the last 20 years so I thought I'd give everyone else a chance.

Why are there hardly any British shows?
I told you. I wasn't allowed to put The Office or Extras in.

Why is your list all wrong and that?
Because we like different things probably.

Why isn't your list more like the list I would do?
Because we like different things probably.

Why have I noticed something about your list that makes you look pretentious/arrogant/inconsistent/insincere/something else you haven't covered?
Because you have too much time on your hands.

Were you being serious when you said you'd put your shows in this list if you were being honest?
Sigh. Yes... yes... I really think The Office is the best song and TV show/film type thing of all time.

Why are you even doing this list?
To entertain myself/annoy people/entertain other people who like me annoying people.

Why are you such a split tennis ball?
OK, Now you've got me.

Happy New Year.

Alright.

I posted recently about Shmutzhaken's upcoming Deslorelin hormonal implant for tumors. Obviously it's too soon to see if it's working or not, but the procedure went amazingly well. Apparently Deslorelin is used in ferrets to shut down the sex hormones, and there has been a lot of success in tumor work with them. She is recovering far faster then any rat I've ever put through surgery before - I dropped her off at 10 a.m. yesterday, and by 1 p.m. she had woken up, had a meal and did her bathroom business.

The incision is a tiny little incision on the back of the neck about 3 mm long, closed with skin glue. She can't open it, and I had her in a cage by herself for a bit yesterday to keep a close eye on her. Once I determined she wasn't trying to pick at it, I put Mulder in there with her, since Mulder's just a big old lump of warm fur at this point in her life. As I expected, Mulder is leaving her alone and just keeping her warm. Shmutz has a lot of energy already - even more than she had before the procedure!

The vet is going to be doing monthly follow ups with Shmutzhaken for the rest of her life to publish his research, but so far, so good. The only "complication" we encountered was the vet noticed her squinting a lot before he put her under anesthetic. Since she was already unconscious, he had a look in her eyes and discovered that they were full of gunk - but we've had that problem with her before. She has eyedrops for 2 weeks to keep her eyes gunk free and infection free, but other than that, she's in great shape. The vet kept the crud on a swab to show me when I came to pick her up, and I don't know how I didn't see all that crud in her eyes. I guess she is living up to her name: Shmutz is the Yiddish word for dirt. :D

I've tried twice to download a video here without success so I'm just going to link to a public entry on my facebook page. Hope you all can see and enjoy. I think Lucky is missing Oreo but she's coming around.

I'm very slow posting this, sorry, but I want to say a big THANK YOU to my Secret Santa. We all adore the cube and tube - sooooo soft and snuggly! The cookies were a big hit too - fighting ensued when I didn't pass out bits fast enough - but they grudgingly shared with me (and then tried to go into full rodentist mode) ;)

I'm going to have to get some pics of the boys all piled into that epic cube - I don't think I've ever seen one so big - and it's great seeing them all in there, just a stack of noses :)

Dear mysterious Secret Santa from Canada,

Thank you for the beautiful warm fuzzy corner hammock and huge pocket hammock. The girls (and I!) are thrilled - they're breaking in the pocket hammock right now. They'll be cozy and warm all winter.

Also, for the cute rattie note paper and adorable card!

Thank you so much for the toys, [info]angii!

The girls love playing in their new tube, and the hammock is great! I have to keep watching Sadie when she plays with that ladder; she keeps trying to get her head stuck, hah! ♥

-

Completely unrelated, but I'm going to try and switch my girls from bedding into a litter pan and fleece. How hard is it generally to litter train? Pretty easy from what I've heard, but my girls are such slobs! And, what type of litter should I be looking for? We use a wheat-based litter for our cats, but I think the rats would much rather eat it than poop in it.

Yay, the crew and I got our package from Texas! ---->

A very pretty hammock
A cute little treat jar with a rat engraved on it!
Treats in the jar (which my little squeaks love)
A little rattie-size dish (the perfect size for my old man Remington)
And a little rattie comb

Thank you!!!

Also p.s. My package was an international one, hoping it got to recipient OK?

my Martins R-690 just arrived!!! I had JUST checked FedEx and found out that it was on the truck to be delivered today... I swear, right when I closed the window, the truck showed up!

aieeeeeeeee!!! *happydance*

now I have a date with my pliers!

I am SOOOO looking forward to having a cage that is easier to clean. When we first got the girls, my husband built a bookshelf cage. We didn't know what we were doing, and several of the design features make it impossible to keep the shelves clean, so... ugh, I decided we needed to cut our losses with that one.

Just got back from the vet with Ianto snorting like a pig. She's on Doxy now for the next 21 days but something bothers me.

The vet said she needs to lose weight (she's 1.5 years old, weighing 366gr = 0.804lb) because added belly fat pressures her lungs. However, nothing in her diet changed between her last checkup three months ago when she weighed 20gr (0.04lb) less. I have no idea what makes her fat: she lives with six other rats in a larg four-stores cage inside a big playpen with tuns of tunnels and a wheel (which they don't use...) and is generally a run-about little girl. They eat TH, a quarter of dried banana and a small piece of Jerhigh dog snack a day. Other than that, they get cucumbers, carrots and apples a week and share amungst themselves one of those rodent canes and that's all the food they get. What do I need to reduce?

Vets
I have a local vet who has been seeing my girls regularly but my oldie just popped up a tumor(?) and I don't really trust him for surgery. I'm aware of the FL Ratlist but I was wondering if there were, specifically, any Florida vets skilled in tumor/mass removal? Maybe even southern Georgia vets because I live in northeast FL.

Also, is the decision of whether or not a rat would have a good chance of surviving surgery one made by the vet?

Thanks for any help.

I have remembered my livejournal password!

We are in Haast. Um. There have been (spoiler) and (spoiler), and then we drove to a (spoiler), which was very (spoiler).* Eventually, we got to Haast. We're about to go hunting for fish (and chips)!

There has only been one museum today so far. I think yesterday had 3? IDEK NEMORE.

I am very tired but otherwise am having a superfantastic time with a side of marvellous. For dessert I think there's going to be a slice of Freaky One-Lane Bridges.

Can you tell I haven't sat down to think about what I'm writing in the road trip journal yet? Or where I'm going? Or where I've been? THIS ISLAND IS CONFUSING.

Hey all
I discovered what i originally thought was a cyst (because she had one almost like this on the opposite side of her body) but now I believe it may be a tumour. It is on her right side about one centimeter away from her shoulderblade. It is very hard. It is very small though, but i have noticed some growth.
I'm gonna take her sweet rattie butt to the vet, but in case it is a tumour, has anyone had any luck with "alternative" methods? As in, other than surgery?
Thanks

Aww Uncle Wicky. RICK WITH BABIES!!!! AMAZING
Week ninety-nine - December 2009/January 2010

So that was Christmas. Spent a couple of days with folks in the Reading area polishing my Berkshire accent for my next Hollywood movie.

I think I ate about a week's worth of food and a month's worth of calories. I come from a background where fruit is something you take to people in hospital.

Talking of hospital, I got a stomach bug of course. There are so many kids climbing all over you coughing in your face - little brats. I have lost count how many times I'm an uncle and great-uncle. About 30 I think.

I spent most of Boxing Day night in the toilet. It was like the fucking Exorcist but from both ends.

Here are the two newest sprogs.

That's Faya. As you can see, I do quite a good impression of her.

  And this one is Starr.

She does quite a good impression of me...

    Here's the family anthem.

Week ninety-nine - December 2009/January 2010

Hope you had a peaceful holiday.

Hope you enjoy The Guide to the Future

Hope God likes you and doesn't let anything bad happen ever. Or hope he does bad things if he doesn't like you. As long as he doesn't act randomly to be honest.

I HAVEN'T LISTENED TO GUIDE  TO THE FUTURE YET BUT I'M EXCITED!!!!
